Once upon a time, in March 2012, a beautiful Great Dane puppy called Boris joined his forever home in Canberra with Kristen, Eamonn, Paige and Solomon. As all new proud parents, Kristen wanted to dress her baby in the finest Collars and Leads perfectly suited to Boris’ personality. Unfortunately, after endless visits to pet stores, only boring plain Collars and Leads could be found.
On June 8th, I spent 8 hours hand sewing Boris a custom collar. I’d chosen to sew what eventually would become “The Boris”. Boris was a playful and naughty puppy, and I thought this collar suited his personality perfectly. Always loving blue on fawns, I was super excited for him to wear it.
Sadly, when I put the collar on, it barely fit, and he only wore it for a week. I realised there must be a better way to do it, so I pulled out the old sewing machine that had never really been used, and set out to make a new collar. It took a lot less than 8 hours and after showing friends on a Great Dane Facebook page, and having overwhelming support, I created Big Stinky Dog. In the first week, we received 35 orders and Big Stinky Dog was on its way.
We started with three ranges, and have grown from there. My friend Bek (who owns a beautiful Dane called Beaujolais) helps out fulfilling all BSD Orders and creating our beautiful Matilda, Gracie and Bill Nye Ranges.

Our Range
All our collars are named after animals that we love.
The Boris – This design was named after my beautiful Great Dane Boris (Kochak Win Wenders). He is the love of my life and although he is definitely a challenge at times, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

The Matilda – Matilda came into our lives through Great Dane Rescue & Rehoming. She didn’t have a great start to life, grew up in a crate, having 3 litters of puppies in her short 2.5 years of life. She was broken when we picked her up in Melbourne, but is now a completely different dog. She’s confident, playful, happy and an absolute joy. She’s a part of our family and we love her so very much.

The Opal – Opal belongs to friends of ours, Monique and Darron. She’s an absolute sweetheart and I’m so happy that Mon and Darron took on this beautiful deaf girl.

The Fenton – Fenton was Boris’ best friend while growing up. He lives with Monique, Darron and Opal (in Melbourne now 🙁 ), and our boys spent countless hours playing together and being in love.

The Gracie – I’ve always had such a soft spot for this girl. She came into care at Great Dane Rescue & Rehoming as an absolute shell of a dog. For months, her carers gave her all the things she needed and eventually she was successfully rehomed with Lyndal and family. I’m happy to say, she’s blossomed at Lyndal, Phil and Alex’s home.

The Batman – Oh I’ve been in love with this beautiful dog for as long as I can remember. He’s such a handsome, sweet boy and with a name like Batman (my favourite Superhero), he definitely had to have a range named after him.

The Beaujolais – Beaujie lives in Canberra with her Mum (Bek, who helps out with BSD sewing), Dad (Malcolm) and two human sisters (Giselle and Lucinda). I adore this entire family, and Beaujie is such an absolute sweetheart. Whenever I visit, I’m always sure to get my Beaujolais cuddles <3

The Gertie – Gertie is a beautiful Dane that is sadly no longer with us. When we decided to bring out a new range, my friend Kelly had just lost her beautiful dog, and I asked her if she’d let us name a range after her. And so the “Gertie ” was born.

The Bill Nye – I have loved Science for as long as I can remember and I really respect anyone who tries to teach other people to love it as well. When I was looking for a Science/Nerd themed range, the bow tie wearing Bill Nye came to mind and for the first time we called a collar after a human and not a cat or dog 🙂

The Six – I’ve always loved Bengals, and one day my darling daughter Paige, and my significant other Eamonn surprised with my very own. I called him Six, after a Cylon in Battlestar Galactica, and it made sense that he would be the namesake of our cat collar range.

Safety – All Six collars come with a bell and a quick release buckle for the safety of your cat.
